What is Deterministic data?
Data
Deterministic data is verified directly at the source that originates it, such as employment reported by the relevant authority. It contrasts with inferred or self-declared data, which may be estimates or outright false.
Why it matters
A PDF payslip can be altered in minutes. Data verified against the source cannot. The more deterministic the signal, the smaller the decision's margin of error and the smaller the document-fraud surface.
It does not eliminate bias, because no data does, but governed and traceable it can be reduced and audited.
- Less document fraud than with self-declared information.
- Smaller margin of error on the first approval.
- A basis for deciding where the bureau falls short.
Common questions
How is it different from alternative data?+
They are different categories that overlap. Alternative data is anything not coming from the traditional bureau; being deterministic on top of that means it is verified at the source rather than inferred or declared.
